2019 Toyota RAV4 Review, Price, Release Date
The first generation of RAV4 helped to start the crossover frenzy decades ago, and the latest version reinvented itself with bold style and countless modern features. With a rugged appearance resembling the Tacoma pickup, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 also offers functional interiors, desirable options, and sufficient standard driver-assistance technology.
Every 2019 Toyota RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard. The Adventure model was equipped with the more advanced all-wheel-drive system that can disconnect the rear axle to improve fuel economy. Otherwise, all-wheel drive is optional.
- 203 horsepower @ 6,600 rpm
- 184 lb-ft of torque @ 5,000 rpm
- Zero to 60 mph: 8.5 sec (Adventure)
- Standing 1/4-mile: 16.6 sec @ 85.2 mph
- Top speed: 120 mph

Standard & Optional Equipment
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 is available in five trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure and Limited. The LE trim comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, rear privacy glass, low-profile roof rails, a rearview camera, a 60/40-split folding and reclining second-row seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 7-inch touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay compatibility, one USB port, Bluetooth and a six-speaker sound system. Also standard is the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 which consist forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beams.
The XLE adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, foglights, heated mirrors, push-button start, keyless entry, upgraded interior trim, a sunroof, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, dual-zone automatic climate control, four additional USB ports and extending sun visors. The XLE Premium adds 19-inch wheels, a slightly raised suspension (8.6 inches), a power liftgate, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, simulated leather upholstery (SofTex), and soft-touch dashboard materials.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure adds some special styling flourishes along with unique 19-inch alloy wheels, fender flares, all-weather floor mats, taller roof rails, an upgraded rearview camera, embossed seating details, an upgraded driver information display, an 8-inch touchscreen and satellite radio.
The Limited builds on the XLE Premium but also adds chrome exterior trim, driver-seat memory functions, an auto-dimming mirror, the 8-inch touchscreen and a Toyota navigation system.
Some of the Limited feature can be added to the Adventure, XLE Premium and XLE trim levels. Other options include a hands-free liftgate, a surround-view parking camera, a parking sensor system with automatic braking, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging and an 11-speaker JBL sound system.
Once dark and boring inside, now the 2019 Toyota RAV4 has one of the best interiors in its class. The cabin looks and feels more upscale, with plenty of soft-touch materials on the dash and center armrest. The center stack is dominated by a crisp, bright 7 or 8-inch screen, which serves as the control center for audio, navigation and Apple CarPlay, with physical buttons on both sides of the screen. There are also giant grippy volume, tuning and temperature knobs below. You can choose from cloth or 2-tone SofTex seats, but a passenger-side power seat isn’t available. Further improvements, the Adventure model gets splashes of orange accents and stitching.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 rear seats are easy to stow and fold to a nearly flat position that opens up the cabin for cargo. Behind the rear seats you get 37.5 cubic feet of capacity. A low loading height and wide opening make for easy cargo shuffling. Expanded capacity is generous at 69.8 cubic feet. The roll-up cargo cover has a special underfloor storage slot. The optional stereo system subwoofer takes up some corner space, but a small with secure netting helps you store smaller items.
