Trim levels and features
The 2018 Acura RDX is a five-passenger, compact luxury SUV offered as a single trim with one of four option packages: base, Technology, A-Spec and Advance.
The Base package is well-equipped, with standard equipment includes 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, a power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, power-adjustable front seats, heated 12-way power-adjustable front seats, simulated leather upholstery, an infotainment system with new True Touchpad Interface, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a 10.2-inch central display, 9-speaker sound system with satellite radio and two USB ports.
Also standard is the AcuraWatch suite of driver aids, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
The Technology package adds rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, leather upholstery, navigation, an upgraded 12-speaker sound system and two rear-seat USB ports.
The RDX A-Spec adds wider tires, 20-inch wheels, unique cabin trim, blacked-out trim inside and out. It looks sporty, but the suspension is the same as the lower package, so the A-Spec tires and wheels are the only differentiator. The A-Spec does get ventilated seats and a stunning 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D surround-sound system.
The RDX Advance package is the most complete of all. Acoustic front door glass and thicker carpet quiet things down, while its adaptive suspension dampers, a hands-free liftgate, a heated steering wheel, upgraded power-adjustable front seats, and a customizable head-up display provide a better comfort and convenience. It also gets ventilated seats and the ELS stereo from the A-Spec.
Acura keeps it simple by limiting stand-alone options to all-wheel drive and a few dealer accessory items.
Under the hood, every 2019 Acura RDX are equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that replaced the 3.5-liter V6 of the 2nd-gen model. While only 2.0 liters in displacement, it produces 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, nearly tops in its class. The engine is paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission made by Honda and also used in the Accord sedan. Also standard across the lineup is the engine idle start/stop features, which cut the engine power in order to save fuel. Work has been done to make the restarts quicker, but you can switch off this feature.
Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available as an option. The 2019 Acura RDX all-wheel-drive system is the fourth generation of the company smart torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. Its ability to route torque across the rear axle provides a significant advantage in influencing the car’s ability to turn and out of a corner.
The new RDX feels quicker than its predecessor. It accelerates with more authority, especially from low speeds. Quick steering and sharp handling make it one of the more engaging crossovers in the class. In performance testing, the 2019 Acura RDX A-Spec AWD accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. EPA fuel economy stands at 24 mpg combined (22 city/28 highway) for front-wheel-drive models, while AWD reduces 1 mpg across the board. The A-Spec with wider tires lower highway mpg by 1. Properly equipped, the 2019 Acura RDX can tow up to 1,500 pounds, on the lighter end of the spectrum.
Inside, the 2019 Acura RDX has plenty of space for five passengers. The cabin has a luxurious and futuristic feel. At first glance, you might think you are on a space ship. The prominent silver button mounted in the center of the dashboard that is used to switch driving modes looks like from a science fiction movie, while the 10.2-inch high-resolution screen mounted on the top dashboard controlled by the Acura’s True Touchpad Interface is further proof the future is now.
Even the transmission is innovative, though potentially cranky. Instead of a traditional gearshift, you press a button: D for Drive, R for Reverse, P for Park, etc. Front seats are above average in their support, as is the rear passenger space. The 2019 Acura RDX is also one of the class leaders in terms of cargo capacity. With the rear seat up, there are 29.5 cubic feet of space. Fold the back seat and it expands to 58.9 cubic feet, enough to hold the package or sports gear.

The 2019 Acura RDX is available in one trim and starts at $38,295 (include the $975 destination fee). The Technology package costs $41,495. The A-Spec package start at $44,495 and the top-line Advance is $46,495. Adding all-wheel drive is an additional $2,000.
