With indisputable road manners and many luxurious features, the 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV offers an impressive expertise of luxury SUVs. Its stunning design is distinctive and bold, and adds to its beauty is a powerful V8 engine, traditional body-on-frame construction and the ability to tow up to 8,100 pounds. As a long wheelbase version with more spacious passenger and cargo space, the 2018 ESV can accommodate eight passengers with exceptional comfort.
However, the truck-based construction is again haunting the Escalade ESV. It’s drive rougher than most other luxury SUVs. Other rivals are also easier to live on a daily basis and achieve better fuel economy, even though they do not have Escalade ESV power and ability. But if you need to haul some passengers and a big SUV with all the trimmings is what you’re looking for, the 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV is the best.
Trim and Features
The 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV is a full-size luxury SUV available in four trim levels: base, Luxury, Premium Luxury and Platinum.
The base trim is generously equipped both inside and out. Standard features include 20-inch wheels, an adaptive suspension, front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights, an automatic parking system, remote start, a hands-free power liftgate.
Inside, you’ll get tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals, a heated and power-adjustable steering wheel, ventilated and heated power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, power-folding split third-row seats, a customizable gauge cluster, a surround-view camera system, the CUE infotainment interface with an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a navigation system, OnStar with 4G in-vehicle Wi-Fi, and a Bose 16-speaker audio system with a wireless device charger, five USB ports and satellite radio.
The 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV Luxury adds 22-inch wheels, automatic high beams, a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and intervention, forward collision warning and mitigation with automatic braking, a sunroof, a head-up display, power-folding second-row seats and a camera-based rearview mirror system.
The popular Premium Luxury trim adds adaptive cruise control, a more advanced collision mitigation system with forward and reverses automatic braking, a rear entertainment system with a Blu-ray player and two overhead-mounted displays.
The range-topping Escalade ESV Platinum adds power-retracting side steps, upgraded leather upholstery, a cooled front-seat center console, upgraded power front seats with massaging function, and two more rear entertainment screens mounted in the front headrests with the ability to display individual video sources.
The 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive is standard. Four-wheel drive is available as optional and comes with a two-speed transfer case for low-speed mobility over off-road terrain.
Cadillac says the Escalade ESV 4WD with a new transmission is powerful enough to enable 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. Towing capacity is 8,300 pounds for the RWD and 8,100 pounds for the heavier four-wheel-drive models.
The EPA estimates fuel economy at 17 mpg combined (14 city/23 highway) for the rear-wheel-drive and 17 mpg combined (14 city/21 highway) for the four-wheel-drive. These numbers are about average for the class.
The 2018 Escalade ESV cabin features an exciting contemporary interior design like other Cadillac luxury vehicles. As expected from this large SUV, the passenger space is also generous. Full-size adults can sit comfortably in front and middle, even on long trips. The third-row seat has an extra 10 inches of legroom compared to the regular Escalade, which allows tall people to stretch and avoid knee problems facing toward the roof found in the standard Escalade.
One of the centers of the 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV interior is the CUE infotainment interface, arranged in pods in the center of the dashboard. It feels aesthetic and driven that Cadillac has noticed user complaints about system difficult operations in recent years, using faster processors and other improvements to make it more responsive.
For cargo capacity, the 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV is the best with 39.3 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 76.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 120.9 cubes with second and third rows folded. The third-row seats are folded in seconds with buttons mounted in the trunk.
