Audi SQ5 finally redesigned completely, received many features, technology and interior upgrades like his brother Q5. But the SQ5 engine becomes the biggest separator for both models. The old supercharged V6 has been replaced by the new turbocharged V6, and it makes the SQ5 even more powerful to drive. It has the same horsepower as the previous V6 but produces more torque, and power delivery is lower in the rev range, which makes the SQ5 even more hitting. The new air suspension system is a nice upgrade and help this SUV steady around the corner while providing better ride quality on rugged city pavement.
Trim, Features and Engine Specification
The 2018 Audi SQ5 is five-passenger compact luxury crossover SUV offered in Premium Plus and Prestige trims.
Standard equipment on the 2018 Audi SQ5 Premium Plus include 20-inch wheels, an adaptive suspension, parking sensors, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, keyless ignition and entry, three-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring, low-speed collision warning and mitigation, rear cross-traffic alert, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, 40/20/40-split folding rear seats, Android Auto smartphone integration, Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch touchscreen with Audi’s MMI infotainment system and a 10-speaker sound system.
The 2018 Audi SQ5 Prestige upgrades the tech features with extra soundproofing, a full-color head-up display, an 8.3-inch touchscreen interface, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit gauge panel, a navigation system, a touchpad controller with handwriting recognition, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and a top-down parking camera system.
All the Prestige features are available as options on the Premium Plus. Audi also offers the S Sports package, which includes upgraded rear sport differential, an air suspension system with adaptive ride-height and driving modes, a special display mode for the Virtual Cockpit display, which includes a boost gauge and lap timer.
Other options for 2018 Audi SQ5 include diamond-stitched leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rear side airbags, manual rear sunshades and 21-inch wheels with summer tires.
All the 2018 Audi SQ5 is powered by a new turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 who the replaced old SQ5 3.0-liter supercharged V6. Power is unchanged at 354 hp, but torque increases from 346 lb-ft to 369 lb-ft. Audi says the new turbocharged engine is 31 pounds lighter than the old, and it is tuned to be more responsive.
The SQ5 still carry over the old SQ5’s quick-shifting eight-speed auto. The eight-speed is paired to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. In terms of performance, Audi estimates 0–60 mph will take the new SQ5 in 5.1 seconds. EPA estimated fuel-economy rated at 19/24/21 mpg city/highway/combined.
As you would expect from Audi, the 2018 SQ5 interior is flawlessly built with high-quality materials and shades. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster is a part of the optional Navigation package on the Premium Plus trim, but standard on the Prestige model. This is a considerable upgrade, presenting a variety of information directly in the driver’s line of sight in a clear way, engaging, and very easy to configure. Faux-suede and carbon-fiber trim are scattered all over the cabin, the thing you usually find in high-performance vehicles lately.
One thing where the 2018 Audi SQ5 falls short of some of its competitors is in the visual. Competitors like the Porsche Macan, along with F-Pace and Alfa Romeo Stelvio are more typical than the SQ5, which looks almost the same as the previous model. Those who like to fly under the radar may prefer the Audi’s silent look, but its soft and rather striking shape is not much to convey to the athleticism found in it.
For utilities, the 2018 Audi SQ5 has the same 40/20/40 folding rear seat found in Q5. It offers a maximum of 60 cubic feet of cargo space. Not a leading class, but quite generous, considering this SUV is focused on performance
