Completely redesigned for 2018, the Audi S4 goes straight to making strong statement of intent. The new S4 rises to the top of the class with a smoother style, satisfying performance and a truly modern interior.
With a quiet, comfortable and thoughtful interior to create a fun driving dynamic, it is something everyone expects. Compared to the Mercedes AMG C43 and the BMW 340i, the 2018 Audi S4 moves ahead.
Trim, Features and Specs
The 2018 Audi S4 is a high-performance five-passenger luxury sport sedan. It is available in Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels.
Standard equipment on the 2018 Audi S4 Premium Plus trim include summer performance tires, 18-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, heated power-folding mirrors, automatic wipers, a panoramic sunroof, keyless ignition and entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming mirrors, driver-seat memory settings, power front seats with heating and massage functions, 40/20/40-split folding rear seats, interior ambient lighting, leather and simulated suede upholstery.
For technology features you’ll get Audi Connect Care emergency telematics, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed forward collision warning and mitigation, a rearview camera, a 7-inch infotainment display, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, remote control via a smartphone app, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium surround-sound audio system with a CD player, HD radio, satellite radio, dual SD card slots and two USB ports.
The 2018 Audi S4 Prestige gets all of the above content, plus a top-down parking camera system, a virtual instrument panel display, a navigation system, a 8.3-inch infotainment display, remote vehicle monitoring via a smartphone app, streaming internet radio apps, and a track pad feature for infotainment input. All of these features are available as options for the Premium Plus trim.
The Prestige trim can be equipped with the Driver Assistance package that adds automatic high beams, traffic-adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, lane departure warning and intervention.
Other options include the S Sport package which add adaptive suspension dampers, red brake calipers and sport rear differential. The Warm Weather package adds extended premium leather upholstery and ventilated front seats. An adaptive steering system and a heated steering wheel.
The 2018 Audi S4 employs an all-new 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, called EA839. Fitted with a BorgWarner twin-scroll turbocharger, this engine will produce 354 horsepower at 6400 rpm and produces 369 lb-ft of torque at a low 1370 rpm. That’s 21 more horsepower and 44 more lb-ft of torque than the S4’s previous 3.0-liter supercharged V6. This engine paired to Audi Quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and eight-speed ZF torque-converter automatic, a unit that replaces the previous model seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG).
For performance, the 2018 Audi S4 will hit 60 mph in just 4.3 second, which plenty of power for everyday driving. EPA estimated fuel economy rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.
When you open the door, you will see the 2018 Audi S4 cabin design integrated and easy to use. Ergonomics and style are all at the top of the class. The cabin quality build is very good and suits what we expect from Audi. No connections or stitches are not good to see. The brushed aluminum interior trim does look and feel plasticky, but that’s the only letdown.
The driver and front seat passengers have spacious head, leg and shoulder space. While high-bodied passengers in the rear seat will feel very fit behind the higher driver, the two passengers will feel comfortable for the distance being. It’s not only good in class, but for most of the midsize sedans.
Against the trend of high roof lines and higher trunk, the 2018 Audi S4 is an example of a modern sedan that offers good visibility. In addition, it is difficult to argue about the interior of Audi. The controls are clear, arranged logically and consistently in feel and look. The instrument panel takes some time to learn, but presents a variety of information. The Audi MMI became very easy after a few uses.
Performance is the 2018 Audi S4 primary key, but you still get the same utility as a regular A4 sedan. Storage is not abundant, there is enough space for personal items such as phones, sunglasses, or parking cards. Trunk space is available for 13 cubic feet, isn’t overly large, but load height is reasonable.
