When shopping for luxury sedans most buyers are reflexively choosing the popular brands such as the Mercedes, BMW or Audi. But what if you find them a little boring or less satisfying? That’s where the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia show up. This luxury sedan new player is not well known, but once you see it, it’s hard to ignore.
From the outside, the Giulia looks very different on the road thanks to its tight styling and classic Alfa Romeo grille. The underlying hardware is competitive, with the base Giulia and Giulia Ti receiving a 280-horsepower turbocharged engine that drives the rear wheels via a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission.
At the very top, the Giulia Quadrifoglio really makes its presence known with its high-performance. Armed with a powerful Ferrari-developed turbocharged V6 engine, lightweight carbon fiber, articulating aerodynamically, and a large number of other speed improvement features to win over the hearts of performance enthusiasts.
Trim levels & features
The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia is a compact luxury sedan that available in six trims levels: the entry-level Giulia and Giulia Sport, the midtier Ti, Ti Sport and Ti Lusso, and the high-performance Quadrifoglio.
Standard features for the base Giulia include keyless ignition and entry, all-season tires, 17-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, automatic wipers, xenon headlights, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, a driver information display, a rearview camera, adjustable drive models, power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, a 6.5-inch central display, Bluetooth, voice commands, an eight-speaker audio system and three USB ports.
The Giulia Sport adds unique 18-inch wheels, front and rear fascias, painted brake calipers, gloss black window trim. The Sport Interior package is still an option and includes sport pedals, a leather steering wheel, aluminum trim, and huge column-mounted aluminum paddle shifters.
The Navigation package adds a rotary controller, navigation, an 8.8-inch central infotainment display, 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system and satellite radio. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity is a stand-alone option on all trims.
Special for the Giulia and Giulia Sport is a Cold Weather package, which adds heated washer nozzles, a heated steering wheel and heated seats. The Driver Assistance Static package adds auto-dimming exterior mirrors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and front parking sensors. The Driver Assistance Dynamic Plus package adds automatic high beams, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, a heat-reducing infrared reflective windshield, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti get everything the Giulia model has along with the Cold Weather package, 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, satellite radio and 8.8-inch display. Navigation and adaptive xenon headlights are a stand-alone option. The Ti Sport adds 19-inch alloy wheels, sport front seats and everything from the Sport trim and Sport Interior package.
The Ti Lusso adds unique 18-inch wheels, an upgraded steering wheel, upgraded leather interior trim, comfort-oriented front seats and an interior air quality system. If you just wanted a leather interior, it’s available as a Leather package.
The Ti Sport Performance package adds the Ti Sport a mechanical limited-slip rear differential and an adaptive suspension damper. And if you prefer the performance package items only, the Ti Performance package will also includes the column-mounted paddle shifters. The Harman Kardon premium audio system is an option.
The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio will get you 19-inch wheels, a high-performance Brembo brake system, super-sticky Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, a torque-vectoring rear differential, a two-mode exhaust with bypass valves, a carbon-fiber active front splitter and an adaptive suspension, a lightweight hood and roof made of carbon fiber, aggressive specific details such as the grille, front fascia, bi-xenon adaptive headlights, carbon trunk spoiler and rear diffuser with quad exhaust tips. Inside, you’ll find additional drive modes, carbon-fiber trim, and almost all of the features that are optional on the less expensive trim.
A few options are available for the Quadrifoglio. The Driver Assistance Dynamic Plus package mentioned earlier, an ultra-high-performance Brembo carbon-ceramic brake system, a carbon-fiber-detailed steering wheel and leather and simulated-suede ultra-high-performance Sparco carbon-fiber racing seats (driver and front-passenger seats with two-way and four-way power adjustments).
With the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia, buyers have a choice of two engines. Powering the base and Ti model is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. That power sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available as an option.
In performance testing, the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti AWD accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in quick 5.3 seconds. EPA estimated fuel economy for the rear-wheel drive models at 27 mpg combined (24 city/33 highway). The AWD variant rated at 26 mpg combined (23 city/31 highway). These are respectable figures considering the car’s focus on performance.
The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio come standard with a Ferrari-derived turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine that generates powerful 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting mode sent that power to the rear-wheel. It also features with fuel-saving cylinder deactivation. Unfortunately, the six-speed manual transmission available in Europe isn’t available in the U.S. models at this time.
In performance testing, the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio went to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. A top speed of 191 mph. EPA fuel economy stands at 20 mpg combined (17 city/24 highway).

The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia is available at the dealership for purchase now. Key competitors include the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan. Official price for the base Giulia starts at $38,990 (including a $995 destination charge). The Giulia Ti is the next step up and is priced at $40,990. The range-topping Quadrifoglio is priced at $74,495.
